Richard Street, PhD
Richard L. Street, Jr. PhD, is Professor and Head of Communication at Texas A&M University. He has served on the TAMU faculty for 22 years. He is also Director, Health Communication and Decision-Making Program in the Houston Center for Quality of Care and Utilization Studies, Baylor College of Medicine.
Over the past 25 years, he has developed an extensive program of research examining issues related to health care provider-patient communication, in particular patient involvement in care, and the pathways through which communication can contribute to better health outcomes.. He has edited 2 books and published over 100 articles and book chapters. He has also served as a principal investigator or co-investigator on several NIH, AHRQ, American Cancer Society, and Texas Advanced Research/Technology grants.
Dr. Street has served on scientific review panels for NIH and AHRQ study sections and was an external evaluator for NCI's recently funded Centers for Excellence in Cancer Communication. In 2003, he was named Outstanding Health Communication Scholar by both the National Communication Association and International Communication Association. In 2008, he received the L. Donohew Health Communication Scholar Award from the University of Kentucky. In 2010, he was awarded Texas A&M Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement in Research Award.
